The
spectacle of nature
Capracotta, a village with 1000 inhabitants
(or something more), lies to the very
north part of Molise. It’s situated
on a hillside dividing the Sangro river
valley from that of the Trigno and offers
the spectacular view of the mountains
of the Abruzzo National Park, of the
imposing Maiella mountain range on the
north, and the landscape of Agnone and
that of the whole Molise region. With
its 1421 above sea level, it’s
one of the highest towns upon the Appenine
range.
The spectacle of nature is amazing here.
The two most important mountains –
Monte Campo (1746 mt.) and Monte Capraro
(1730 mt.) – lend themselves,
with their breathtaking view and their
still pure nature, to unforgettable
excursions during the warm season. Our
mountains, together with the uplands
and wooded areas of pine, beech and
oak woods are parts of a land able to
surprise and to fascinate everyone in
every season.
Not
far from the village is placed the
“Giardino della Flora Appenninica”,
a “high” botanical garden
supervised in cooperation with the
University of Molise, which collects
floral and arboreal sorts of Southern
and Central Italy.
The
River Park of Verrino, the glade of
Prato Gentile and the numerous marked
paths are the right place for walking,
biking and riding tours.
Outside
the village, easily reachable are
the natural reserves of Montedimezzo
and Collemeluccio, one of the most
beautiful gems which are a part of
the Biosphere Reserve established
by Unesco within the MAB (Man and
Biosphere Programm).
From Capracotta is also very easy
to get to many other interesting historical,
archaeological and cultural places
such as the Italic Theatre of Pietrabbondante,
the Italic little Temple of Vastogirardi,
the old town centre of Agnone with
its churches, its famous “Pontificia
Fonderia Marinelli” foundry
and the Old Book Show, the Paleolithic
Museum of Isernia, the archaeological
areas of Sepino and Castel San Vincenzo
al Volturno, the mountain tourist
resorts of Roccaraso, Pescocostanzo
and Pescasseroli in Abruzzo and the
National Parks of Abruzzo and of Maiella
mountains.
