Alto
Molise – a secret land hanging
in the time
Molise is, soon afterwards Val D’Aosta,
the smallest region of Italy and consequently
one of the less known of our country
too. This land is extremely rich in
history and nature and it managed to
preserve its tradition, the excellent
flavours of its plain cooking and most
of all the human dimension of living.
The early Samnite region, full of traces
of that ancient culture, is rich in
signs of several other ages too: the
Prehistoric Age, the Roman and the Lombard
one, the Romantic Age and the Baroque.
This is also the land of the vast green
spaces, the cattle-tracks (tratturi),
the large meadows and woods of the “Alto
Molise” area.
CAPRACOTTA,
the “pearl” of Alto Molise
Capracotta, a health and winter ski
resort, standing at 1421 m. above
sea level and protected on both sides
by two mountains called Monte Campo
and Monte Capraro, is today an important
point of reference for the cross-country
skiing in central and southern Italy.
In the imposing natural scenery of
Prato Gentile, both in winter and
in summer enjoyable, was the host-place
of very important ski competitions:
the Absolute Italian Championship
and the Continental Cup. This made
of Capracotta one of the best location
for such a sport. The recent opening
of a run for alpine-skiing means that
Capracotta can offer an even richer
array of winter sports to its tourists.
The place can boast an historic Skiing-Club:
It was instituted in 1914 and has
been adorned with two extremely important
recognitions: the C.O.N.I. gold star
and the F.I.S.I. gold badge for sporting
merit.
The
Hotel Capracotta: the right place
for every season
The Hotel Capracotta is situated in
the centre of the village of the same
name: a tourist health resort with
an old “molisana” tradition.
Here you can find, in a pleasant and
cosy atmosphere, all you need for
your comfort and relax. Every bedroom
is sunny. They also have a panoramic
view, bathroom with shower, TV, radio-telephone

Ten rooms are also on two levels (as
they had a mansard) and have two bathrooms.
The common spaces have a private bar,
spacious living rooms with TV corner,
fireplace, amusement arcade, ski-depot
and a conference room with 120 seats
and equipped with microphone-systems,
stereo and tv-projector.
The hotel is also provided with an
outside parking lot and a garage.
“Il Ginepro” Restaurant
is also part of the hotel. In a very
chic place you can enjoy dishes that
you never ate before: the well-known
‘pecorino’ and ‘ricotta’
cheese, the ‘pezzata’
sheep meat (a traditional local dish),
the typical lamb cutlets, the homemade
pasta (prepared day by day), the mushrooms
and the fresh truffles.
